In the last several decades, India has seen a twenty-fold rise in the number of motor vehicles, and while private vehicle usage rates are increasingly becoming an indicator of newfound wealth and prosperity, this also translates to a significant deterioration in the quality of life of the urban poor.

On April 18, as part of the effort to draw attention to the growing burden of road traffic injuries, the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit (JH-IIRU) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has launched Public Health Burden of Road Traffic Injuries: An Assessment from Ten Low- and Middle-Income Countries, a special issue of Traffic Injury Prevention.

"The launch of G-Auto service comes at a time when auto rickshaws in Rajkot do not run as per assigned meter rate and drivers charges whatever they want. However, the G-Auto will run on meter rate.
