The main stakeholders involved in building a new bus rapid transit corridor to revitalize downtown Porto Alegre agreed on a route for the new system and will develop a working plan for rest of the project by next month.

The working group participants included the Secretary of Urban Mobility Luiz Afonso Senna, along with representatives from the Association of Passenger Carriers in Porto Alegre (ATP) and the Association of Inter-City Transporters (ATM). City Hall officials and CTS-Brasil are also involved in drafting the proposal, which will be sent to the Andean Development Corporation (CAF), a regional development bank that will contribute $100 million to the Portais da Cidade project, nearly half the total cost.

The August 13 working group meeting involved Secretary of Strategic Management and Monitoring Clóvis Magalhães, and Secretary of Urban Mobility Luiz Afonso Senna. Also in attendance were CTS-Brasil Director Luis Antonio Lindau, President of ATP Enio Roberto dos Santos, and President of ATM Sérgio Tadeu Pereira, as well as each of the association's directors.

"For the first time ATP and ATM agreed on the improvements that the project will bring to Porto Alegre and the entire metropolitan area," Secretary Senna said. "Now we can move forward on defining the project."

The group is scheduled to meet again with CAF representatives on October 21 at 9:30 a.m.
