The Transportation Directorate of Sakarya Municipality hosted a workshop on July 7-9 about “Cycling Inclusive Urban Transport Planning," led by the Interface for Cycling Expertise (I-CE). The event was the second in a series of workshops, the first one of which was held on May 26-28.

Sakarya Municipality and the Center for Sustainable Transport in Turkey (SUM-Türkiye) teams collected data between the first and second workshops. Data collection included vehicle, bicycle and pedestrians counts, passenger satisfaction surveys for factory workers, project stakeholder analysis, travel time and speed data, parking lots analysis, land use analysis, accidents data and identification of mass transportation lines along the pilot route.

Team leader of Sakarya Municipality Fuat Özkan, working together with SUM-Türkiye’s Transport Engineers Burhan Kocaman and Şefik Elbeyli, presented the results to workshop participants.

In the light of the conclusive data, the workshop team completed a pre-design of the bicycle routes and a stakeholder analysis.

Sakarya and SUM-Türkiye teams will work to finalize the design of the bicycle routes and a communications plan from now until the last workshop, which will be held September 15-17.
