BRT Around the World Update 2012

The Across Latitudes and Cultures  - Bus Rapid Transit Centre of Excellence (ALC-BRT) is announcing a monthly webinar series to share timely public transit research and encourage ongoing international collaboration across the BRT space. The series is open to anyone and will address issues relevant to researchers and practitioners. 

The inaugural webinar was held last Friday, November 30th and was presented by Dario Hidalgo, the Director of Research and Practice for EMBARQ. Hidalgo kicked off the series with an update to BRTData.org, the most comprehensive site for data on BRT systems globally, complied by the ALC-BRT and EMBARQ with support from IEA and SIBRT. The site currently holds data for 147 cities with bus corridors from full BRT to BHLS, or buses of high levels of service. The presentation will highlight BRTdata.org features, including summaries on key indicators, geographical distribution, and recent progress in the field.

In addition to providing an overview of the site, key corridor and system updates were presented, including expansions to Mexico City’s Metrobús and Bogatá’s TransMilenio, as well as Rio de Janeiro’s first BRT line, Transoeste. The global advance of rail systems, and their impact on BRT development was also be discussed, as well as key advances in BRT technology and system management.
