EMBARQ - The World Resources Institute Center for Sustainable Transport, which heads a global sustainable transport network, is seeking a transportation engineer for its Center for Sustainable Transport in Turkey (SUM-Türkiye). The successful candidate will report to the SUM-Türkiye Director, and will be responsible for managing the sustainable urban transport projects including non-motorized transport, public transport (including bus rapid transit), transport and climate change, clean vehicles and vehicle technologies in Turkey.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Lead the Value Assurance Review process.
- Manage the relationship with the Municipality and all other relevant organizations (including the engineering company) involved in the development and implementation of sustainable urban transports.
- Manage and develop work plans and timelines for sustainable urban transport projects
- Identify required resources for the sustainable urban transport projects;
-Draft terms of references (TORs and CTRs) for EMBARQ’s sub-grantees, consultants, and other contributing experts or partners for SUM-Türkiye.
-Develop and manage the Turkey sustainable urban transport budget and program plans.
-Provide technical input into the development of the sustainable urban transport projects.
INSTITUTIONAL RELATIONS
- Organize, facilitate and/or attend events that are relevant to EMBARQ’s sustainable urban transport program in Turkey.
- Assist in the development of sustainable urban transport tools that could be applicable city and regional partners.
- Write and review reports and evaluations on Turkey sustainable urban transport activities and projects, coordinating with Turkey Program Director and EMBARQ’s core staff, based in Washington, D.C.
FUNDRAISING
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy to ensure successful implementation of SUM-Türkiye’s transport projects.
- Draft proposals for strategic partnership with potential donors to fund transport projects; manage follow-up and follow-through.
- Identify and contact potential funding organizations and partners to discuss opportunities for collaboration on transport projects.
- Contribute to reports for SUM-Türkiye donors.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as subject matter expert of Sustainable Urban Transport for the EMBARQ global network.
QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY COMPETENCIES:
The position requires someone with some or all of the following qualifications:
- Completed MS degree in transportation engineering/planning
- Experience in transportation engineering, transportation planning, project management, and or public finance
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and the Internet. Capability to learn and use software applications for transportation planning and engineering used by EMBARQ and WRI
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Turkish. Must be fluent in Turkish / possess bilingual fluency in Turkish and English.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines
