Los Angeles' Metro is doing something that no transit agency in the country has ever done: it's marketing its products and services as if it were a private company bent on turning a profit. But for Metro marketing isn't about increasing the bottom line. It's about reducing traffic, cleaning the air and making people's commutes in this auto-clogged city a bit less stressful.

NEW YORK, November 18, 2009 – EMBARQ – The World Resources Institute Center for Sustainable Transport is one of six organizations awarded a total of $125 million by Michael Bloomberg to implement programs in low-and middle-income countries to prevent death and disability from road traffic crashes. This is the largest single donation ever for international road safety.

In early September, municipal government officials, transport entrepreneurs, Metroplan representatives, and CTS-Brasil will travel to Caracas, Venezuela to expedite the signing of a financing contract with the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) to begin work on Porto Alegre's "Portais da Cidade" bus rapid transit project.
